Why should we care?
SCS’s ability to provide a quality, equitable education is being undercut by high teacher turnover and year-long teaching vacancies, as well as significant maintenance deficiencies within the schools, all of which leads to higher financial, educational, and health costs. A lack of access to wraparound services provided by qualified social workers, psychologists, and nurses inhibits the successful treatment of trauma or Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE). Abuse, neglect, and trauma significantly increase the likelihood of suspensions, juvenile criminal behavior, and incarceration. With a median age four years below the national average, Memphis’s population can support economic development, but only if we provide children in our community access to opportunities and support.

JOIN US for our TN4ALL Day on the Hill on Tuesday, March 11. It’s time we took our fight for fully-funded public schools, working people and corporate accountability to the Capitol. We envision a Tennessee that prioritizes fully-funded, equitable and honest education for ALL students NOT a voucher scam for out-of-state billionaires. We envision a Tennessee where corporations pay their fair share and working people aren’t taxed on necessities like their groceries. It’s unacceptable that 60% of mega-corporations pay zero in state corporate income taxes, while everyday Tennesseans are struggling to make ends meet. Will you join us to fight for a better Tennessee for all? During our Day on the Hill we will:
Meet with legislators
Learn about our issues and how we can continue the fight through workshops
Meet other folks from across Tennessee
Elevate our people and issues through a rally and press event
