Why should we care?
SCS’s ability to provide a quality, equitable education is being undercut by high teacher turnover and year-long teaching vacancies, as well as significant maintenance deficiencies within the schools, all of which leads to higher financial, educational, and health costs. A lack of access to wraparound services provided by qualified social workers, psychologists, and nurses inhibits the successful treatment of trauma or Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE). Abuse, neglect, and trauma significantly increase the likelihood of suspensions, juvenile criminal behavior, and incarceration. With a median age four years below the national average, Memphis’s population can support economic development, but only if we provide children in our community access to opportunities and support.

About the event
MICAH’s 7th Annual Public Meeting is Sunday, September 14 from 4-6pm, location TBA!
This once-a-year meeting is an opportunity to hold public officials accountable for issues important to Memphis like housing, transportation, and the criminal justice system. Our task forces will dive deep into key issues that affect our community while highlighting solutions and making demands that can restore it. Our leaders are working to make this action a powerful one, and our community’s voice is critical to show our city and county officials that we care about our community.
As MICAH continues to build excitement around our 7th Annual Public Meeting on Sunday, September 14, 2-4pm, we are also relying on your support to spread the word. The Annual Public Meeting belongs to all of us at MICAH, and we can only be successful when each of us does our part!
