Why should we care?
SCS’s ability to provide a quality, equitable education is being undercut by high teacher turnover and year-long teaching vacancies, as well as significant maintenance deficiencies within the schools, all of which leads to higher financial, educational, and health costs. A lack of access to wraparound services provided by qualified social workers, psychologists, and nurses inhibits the successful treatment of trauma or Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE). Abuse, neglect, and trauma significantly increase the likelihood of suspensions, juvenile criminal behavior, and incarceration. With a median age four years below the national average, Memphis’s population can support economic development, but only if we provide children in our community access to opportunities and support.
Equipping people of faith and goodwill to organize communities for systemic change through collective action.

About the event
We would like to invite you to join us for an November Election Engagement Interest Meeting !
We will be hosting this Interest Meeting to go over the slate of activities MICAH is planning alongside its partners and coalitions. We have a variety of actions happening starting as early as next week. Some of these actions include:
Sept 13-15: 3 Day trip to Wisconsin for the "Throwdown" to mobilize voters with Gamaliel Network
Sept 17: Voter Registration Day Celebration with Grizzlies
Oct 5: Shelby County Throwdown, Cross County Voter mobilization day with TN4All
Oct 19: "Immigrants Vote Together" Action and Poll Party!
Oct 26: Early Voting Election Hub with Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc.
Nov 5th: Election Day Election Hub with SCVA
The goal is to build a team of people who can lead different actions, and that people can commit to three actions between now and the Nov Election. We also will have paid canvassing opportunities, and they will be restructured to streamline both the training and receiving of stipends. The Interest meetings times are:
Tues, Sept 3, 6pm - 7 pm - Zoom Wed, Sept 4, 6pm - 7 pm - Zoom Thurs, Sept 5, 6pm - 7 pm - Zoom
