Why should we care?
SCS’s ability to provide a quality, equitable education is being undercut by high teacher turnover and year-long teaching vacancies, as well as significant maintenance deficiencies within the schools, all of which leads to higher financial, educational, and health costs. A lack of access to wraparound services provided by qualified social workers, psychologists, and nurses inhibits the successful treatment of trauma or Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE). Abuse, neglect, and trauma significantly increase the likelihood of suspensions, juvenile criminal behavior, and incarceration. With a median age four years below the national average, Memphis’s population can support economic development, but only if we provide children in our community access to opportunities and support.
Equipping people of faith and goodwill to organize communities for systemic change through collective action.

To celebrate International Workers’ Day, on May 1st we will be celebrating together and showing the power of our community and connecting the history of the labor movement and the immigrant rights movement.

National Civil Rights Museum, 450 Mulberry St, Memphis, TN 38103, USA
About the event
In the last few months, we have seen our communities attacked on all fronts- threatened with being denied enrollment in public schools, ICE randomly and aggressively detaining family members, targeted punishments for speaking about atrocities committed in Gaza, and destroyed legal pathways to citizenship. While those currently in power want us to give in to fear, many of us are shifting to action and resistance.
To celebrate International Workers’ Day, on May 1st we will be celebrating together and showing the power of our community and connecting the history of the labor movement and the immigrant rights movement. Speakers will be invited to talk about the state of local, state, and federal legislation.
We invite all families, students, teachers, community members, and business owners to show their power by closing businesses, not going to work or school, and rallying together at our International Workers’ Day Boycott, Rally, Teach-In, and Celebration…
