This Friday, a team of immigrant community leaders will meet with Sheriff Floyd Bonner to discuss the recently signed 287(g) contract, which formalizes the Sheriff’s collaboration with ICE directly, rather than only through the Memphis Safe Task Force. Immigrant leaders will ask Sheriff Bonner to cease all collaboration with ICE which is deteriorating community trust in local law enforcement. Following the meeting, we will host a press conference to share the impact of the Memphis Safe Task and the outcome of the meeting with Sheriff Bonner.


The meeting and press conference take place on the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which, in the Catholic faith tradition, commemorates the miraculous apparitions in 1531 of the Virgin Mary to an indigenous man, Juan Diego, who used roses to prove to the Bishop the apparitions were true, and which moved the Bishop to fulfill the Virgin’s request to build a church.…
